all very hardy and ideally suited to being kept indoors
and outdoors throughout Australia.
The Comet strain was first developed
in Washington (USA) in the 1880's and is now the
most popular single goldfish variety. With
a streamlined body shape and long flowing tail, Comets
are well suited to garden ponds, as well as the unheated
aquarium or bowl.
These varieties are not fussy about
water conditions or diet, and are very easy to care
for. Like all goldfish, they are quite peaceful. |

aquariums and garden ponds.
Comets, Shubunkins and Fans (Fantails)
are some of the most popular of goldfish varieties,
all very hardy and ideally suited to being kept indoors
and outdoors throughout Australia.
The Fan (Fantail) is the most popular
of the double tailed goldfish varieties, an ideal fish
for bowls, unheated aquariums and garden ponds. It
kept outdoors, provide some protection from cats and
birds, as the Fan is not as agile as a Comet or Shubunkin.
These varieties are not fussy about
water conditions or diet, and are very easy to care
for. Like all goldfish, they are quite peaceful.
Available Variations : Calico Fantails,
Red Cap Fantails, Red and Black Fantails |
| SHUBUNKIN - Available sizes = 5CM, 7CM,
12CM, 14CM, 20CM |
 |
The Shubunkin was developed
in Japan circa 1900, and quickly became very popular
in western
countries. Like the Comet, it is a slender
fish, ideal for garden and ponds, and the unheated
aquarium or bowl. It has been developed into
several different forms, these mainly differ by tail
shape. Shubunkins can be extremely variable
in colour, which is part of their appeal.
These varieties are not fussy about
water conditions or diet, and are very easy to care
for. Like all goldfish, they are quite peaceful |
| ASSORTED ORANDA - Available sizes = 4CM, 7CM,
8CM, 12CM, 15CM |

Black Oranda

Blue Oranda
|
With amazing
head growth and long flowing fins, the Oranda
is one of the most impressive fancy goldfish varieties. First
developed in Japan in the nineteenth century,
Orandas are immensely popular and have been
progressively developed into a wide range of
colours.
The unusual head growth (or "hood")
develops with age. Young fish may show no discernible
head growth whereas some large specimens may have
such pronounced head growth, it is starting to cover
the eyes.
Orandas are well suited to unheated
aquariums and bowls, and can also be kept outdoors
(provide protection from predators such as cats or
birds).
They are not fussy about water conditions
or diet, and are quite easy to care for. Like
all goldfish, they are quite peaceful.

| BLACK MOOR - Available sizes 4CM, 5CM,7CM,
8CM, 10CM, 12CM,13CM,14CM |

black demekin (Black Moor)
available in 8CM only |
With a lovely
jet-black colour, protruding eyes and a nice double
tail, the Black Moor is one of the most popular of
goldfish varieties. It is an ideal fish for
the unheated aquariums or bowl and makes a nice contrast
to brightly coloured fish such as Comets and Ryukins.
The Black Moor is also a hardy fish
for outdoor ponds, but protection from predators
may be needed (e.g. wire meshing or netting, or for
a less obtrusive barrier: fishing line criss-crossing
above the pond can be effective against birds.)
Black Moors are not particularly
fussy about water conditions or diet, and are quite
easy to care for. Like all goldfish, they are
quite peaceful.
This variety is believed to have
first appeared in China in the 19th century. |
| CALICO BUBBLE EYE - Available sizes = 4CM,
5CM,
6CM and 7CM |

Calico Bubble Eye

Red Bubble Eye |
With distinctive
fluid filled "bubbles" directly under their eyes,
Bubble Eyes are one of the most bizarre-looking
of fancy Goldfish varieties. The Bubble Eye
was first developed in China in the early twentieth
century, but did not become well known until after
World War 2. This variety also has a double
(paired) tail fin and normally does not have a
dorsal fin. (However a Bubble Eye with a
dorsal fin has also been produced in China).
Bubble Eyes are best kept indoors
in an unheated aquarium or bowl, with other slower
moving goldfish varieties. With their highly
developed form, they can have difficulty competing
for food when housed with quick moving fish such
as Comets.
If kept outdoors, ensure some protection
from predators is provided, as the Bubble Eye is
an easy target for cats or birds.
Bubble Eyes are not fussy about
water conditions or diet, and are easy to care
for. Please ensure they are handled with
care to avoid damaging their bubbles. |
| ASSORTED BUTTERFLY TAIL - Available sizes
= 6CM and
9CM |
Black
Butterfly Tail
Panda Butterfly Tail |
At first glance the
Butterfly Tail looks quite similar to the Dragon
eye Goldfish; both having telescopic eyes, short
rounded bodies and a paired tail fin. On
closer inspection it can be seen that the tail
of the Butterfly Tail spreads horizontally, and
is beautifully symmetrical. When viewed from
above, the tails butterfly-effect becomes particularly
noticeable.
Butterfly Tails are ideal for the
unheated aquarium or bowl, and for situations where
they can be viewed from above, such as in large
ceramic containers. If kept in garden ponds,
ensure some protection from predators is provided.
Like all Goldfish varieties, the
Butterfly Tail is not particularly fussy about
water conditions or diet, and is easy to care for.
Also Available are: |
| RED POM POM CELESTIAL EYES - Available sizes
= 5CM and 6CM |
|
One of
several rather bizarre looking Goldfish varieties,
Celestial Eyes are notable for their protruding
eyes fixed gazing skywards. They also do
not have a dorsal fin, have a paired tail fin and
are predominantly orange to red in colour.
Celestial Eyes are best kept indoors
in an unheated aquarium or bowl, with other slower
moving goldfish varieties. With their highly
developed form, they can have difficulty competing
for food when housed with quick moving fish such
as Comets. Celestial Eyes are not particularly
fussy about water conditions or diet, and are easy
to care for.
This variety was first developed
in China, possibly circa 1900. (A rarer version
with a dorsal fin has also been produced in China.) |
RED CAP DRAGON EYE 5CM |
| pic to come |
Dragon Eyes are quite
distinctive with their protruding eyes, rounded
bodies and double tails. They are also known
as Telescope Eyes or Moors (e.g. Black Moor). They
are well suited to unheated aquariums and bowls,
and can also be kept outdoors (provide protection
from predators such as cats or birds).
Dragon Eyes are not fussy about
water conditions or diet, and are quite easy to
care for. Like all goldfish, they are quite
peaceful.
Goldfish with protruding eyes have
been depicted in illustrations as far back as the
eighteenth century, and were possibly present in
China even as far back as the sixteenth century. |
| PEARL SCALE 4CM - Available sizes = 4CM,5CM |
 Calico Pearl Scale |
The Pearl Scale is a
very attractive and popular fantail-type goldfish. Their
scales are convex, creating a very appealing dimpled
effect. They have quite rounded bodies, with
some specimens looking more like a ping-pong ball
with fins!
The variety became established in
China in the 1920's, and several different variations
and colour forms now exist.
Pearl Scales are best kept indoors
in an unheated aquarium or bowl, they are not fussy
about water conditions or diet, and are quite easy
to care for. If kept outdoors, ensure they
have adequate protection from cats or birds, as the
Pearl Scale is not a fast moving variety. Like
all goldfish, they are quite peaceful. |
| CHOCOLATE ORANGE POMPOM 7CM |
 |
Pom Pom
goldfish are yet another example of the amazing variations
created by the selective breeding of goldfish. These
fish have two fluffy-looking ball-like appendages
on the top of the head between the eyes (the appendages
are also know as nariel bouquets).
The appendages increase in size as
the fish matures, young fish may barely have discernible
pom poms whereas older fish can have very impressively
sized pom poms.
These fish tend to be mainly chocolate
or red in colour (or a mixture of the two), and often
can have pom poms that are differently coloured to
the fish's body. The majority of Pom Pom goldfish
have dorsal fins as these are more popular, but other
variations also exist such as the Pom Pom Celestial
Eye.
These fish are well suited to unheated
aquariums and bowls, and can also be kept outdoors
(but provide protection from predators such as cats
or birds).
Pom Poms are not fussy about water
conditions or diet, and are quite easy to care for. Like
all goldfish, they are quite peaceful. |
| RANCHU -Available sizes 5CM, 6CM, 8CM,
10CM |

Black Ranchu

Red Ranch
|
One of several
goldfish types without a dorsal fin, Ranchu are solid
bodied fish with a broad head. As they grow,
Ranchu develop an impressive head growth that encompasses
the entire head, sometimes even obscuring the fish's
eyes. Developed in Japan, this variety is very
popular in many countries and now occurs in a number
of colour forms.
They are well suited to unheated
aquariums and bowls, and can also be kept outdoors
(provide protection from predators such as cats or
birds).
Ranchu are not fussy about water
conditions or diet, and are quite easy to care for.
Like all goldfish, they are quite
peaceful.

| ASSORTED RYUKIN - Available sizes = 5CM,
7CM, 8CM, 10CM, 12CM |

Calico Ryukin

Red Ryukin

Red and White Ryukin |
The Ryukin is a deep-bodied
form of fantail, which was originally developed in
Japan (they are still extremely popular in that country).
As these fish mature, they develop
a characteristic hump behind the head and become
progressively deeper bodied - the body depth of some
specimens can be 75-80% of their body length. Ryukins
also develop quite intense colouration, the red and
white and the calico are good examples of this.
Broad tail and short tail Ryukins
have also been developed.
Ryukin are well suited to unheated
aquariums and bowls, and can also be kept outdoors
(provide protection from predators such as cats and
birds).
They are not fussy about water conditions
or diet, and are quite easy to care for. Like
all goldfish, they are quite peaceful. |
| RED & WHITE WAKIN - Available sizes =
5CM, 8CM, 12CM |

Wakin |
The
Wakin goldfish is an alternative pond fish to comets
and shubunkins. The Wakin’s odd
shape is a curiosity – at first glance it looks like
a comet with a short fan-tail. Closer examination
of good fish will show a distinct dolphin-like body
shape.
The Wakin is a slender bodied Japanese
goldfish variety ideal for both indoor and outdoor
situations. They have a body shape similar
to the common goldfish, but with a short double tail
and a double anal fin. Wakins usually develop
quite intense red colouration, red and white coloured
fish are also very attractive.
Several other colour forms are also
occasionally available.
Wakin are well suited to unheated
aquariums and bowls, and with a very active manner,
they make an excellent pond fish. They are
not fussy about water conditions or diet, and are
quite easy to care for. Like all goldfish,
they are quite peaceful. |
